INSTRUCTION
FINAL PROJECT | ANIMATED 1 PAGE VISUAL NOVEL
Task Description:
Continuing from Project 3, based on the selected story, create a ONE PAGE introduction of your visual novel or comic to your readers with at least ONE animated panel. Arrange your story in visual sequences that make sense and easily understood. Consider the choice of panel arrangements and transitions. Determine as well which panel(s) will be best visualized as animation.
Requirements:
- Continue with the same story and design aesthetics from Project 2
- Work only from one paragraph of the story for the 1st page
Design Process
I started with sketching out the visuals for my animated novel artwork. For this final project, I decided to portray the beginning story of the "The Oval Portrait". As shown from the sketch image below, the first panel will portray the dark woods where the man has lost his direction and arrived upon an old spooky mansion. The second panel will be showing the design of the house itself. Then, the third and forth panels will be portraying the interior of the house along with the oval paintings across the wall.

In the animation process, I decided to create several art boards in order to be able to create the movement of the animation flow. I choose two important story panels to be animated, which are the first and third panels of my visual novel. Through this process, I started out on using Adobe Illustrator and then I exported the art boards into Adobe Photoshop in order to be able to form the animated GIF.

FEEDBACK
- Ms. Noranis suggested me to pay more attention to the details and the flow of the story.
REFLECTION
For this final project, I learned a numerous amount of valuable information about various types of comic transitions, which was very informative and helpful. I also gained knowledge about storytelling through this project, including the important aspects such as composition and colors that contribute to effective storytelling. One positive aspect of the project was exploring animation and motion comics. Trying out different transitions and movements for the characters was more fun for me compared to illustrating the comic. Although I am still in the process of familiarizing myself with creating GIF, I am slowly getting the hang of it. Overall, I believed that I could have performed better on this project, but I became exhausted and frustrated after completing the comic illustrations.
